News and Events



Beginning on Tuesday 2nd October, 2012 a series of events took place to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Holy Monastery of St. George, and the installation of the Holy Icon of ‘Panagia of Yellow Rock’. The events were marked by the gathering of hundreds of Orthodox pilgrims coming together in prayer and support of the Holy Monastery.

50th Anniversary of the Holy Monastery Opening Ceremony and Unveiling of the Holy Icon

An historical account of the development of St. George Monastery was presented in video. The evening concluded with the unveiling of the Holy Icon of ‘Panagia of Yellow Rock’, which was officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos.

All night Vigil

Beginning with small vespers, an all night vigil took place in honour of Panagia
of Yellow Rock presided by His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis. The all night
vigil included numerous services according to the monastic traditions of Mount
Athos and concluded with the Divine Liturgy at 4am.

Friends of St. George Monastery, together with the Parish and Community of St
Paraskevi hosted a dinner to raise funds for the monastery and its building

Saturday 6th October, 2012. Hall of St. Paraskevi, Blacktown.
Divine Liturgy, and litany of the Holy Icon of Panagia of Yellow Rock 
The Divine Liturgy was presided by His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos. After the Divine Services lunch and refreshments were provided for all. The liturgy was attended by hundreds of pilgrims from all around Sydney as well as from interstate.
